After years of applying, the MN State Fair finally approved Jamal’s application to serve up Safari Express’ signature item, “Camel on a Stick”. Jamal had a short time to put together a kitchen for his booth and get all the supplies he needed, but he just didn’t have the extra funds to invest.
Through his long-time working relationship with the African Development Center, Jamal was chosen to receive a MicroGrant. Jamal got the funds just in time and took the state fair by storm, serving 5,000 items just on the first day alone. He was even featured by the state fair as a ‘Highlighted Product’.
“That small grant really took me far in getting the needed equipment, signs and helped stock the kitchen … I couldn’t have done it without you, MicroGrants.”
MicroGrants grantmaking is currently paused as we work through internal operations and determine next steps for the program.
